The Whirlpool Distribution Center has a low slope 22-gauge steel deck and features 894,800 square feet of 60-mil mechanically attached white Firestone UltraPly TPO over a layer of 3.55-inch-thick Firestone ISO 95+ GL polyiso insulation. The roofing system was chosen because of its light weight and ability to be installed quickly in cold weather. The reflective, white membrane offered superior rooftop performance and energy efficient qualities to assist the facility in earning points toward LEED Gold status.
Facing the possibility of rain, snow, cold and fog on a daily basis in the Pacific Northwest, the large Whirlpool project required a fast track schedule in order to manage and service the client’s needs and deliver a quality finished product. To improve installation efficiency and installer’s physical comfort, the contractor chose to use AccuTrac, an easy to use stand-up insulation attachment tool that aligns and installs the fastener and plate all in one motion. The roofing system was installed per FM Global requirements and included six fasteners per board in the insulation, and 12-inch on center membrane fastening. In total, 170,000, 5-inch Firestone AP AccuTrac fasteners were installed in the insulation and 140,000, 5-inch Firestone HD fasteners with 2 3⁄8-inch plates were used in the seams of the membrane.
