What is Earth Rangers?

Earth Rangers is a non-profit Kids’ Conservation Organization that educates children about biodiversity, conservation, and sustainability, along with their growing importance in today’s society.

The organization spearheads their message by integrating eco-friendly technologies into their own headquarters in Woodbridge Ontario. The Earth Rangers Centre (ERC) was Certified LEED® Gold for New Construction in 2006 and Platinum under LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance in 2012. The ERC is currently the highest rated building in Canada and the facility operates at less than 9 kWh per square foot, using nearly 90% less energy than other buildings of its size.

The ERC was able to achieve this level of sustainability by installing cutting edge technologies with a state of the art infrastructure throughout the building. In order to safeguard their innovative assets, the Earth Rangers relied on Firestone to provide a sustainable, low maintenance, cool roofing solution – an UltraPly TPO Roofing System.

2016 – SkyScape Vegetative Roof

In 2016, Earth Rangers Centre added a new SkyScape vegetative roof, to complement the existing technologies – UltraPly TPO roof and daylighting systems. A combination of Build-in-Place and Modular vegetative roofing solutions were integrated along with SkyPaver™ Composite Roof Pavers to provide a high performance, single-source green roofing solution. first line of defense against the elements.

 

Benefits of the Vegetative Roof

  • The SkyScape Vegetative roofs will reduce the amount of storm water runoff while creating an additional small living environment for local wild life.

  • The vegetative roof will be available to visitors and workers at the Earth Rangers Centre as an amenity space for individuals to take a break and connect with nature.

  • The vegetative roof will contribute to lower the air temperature above the roof surface during summer months.
